Apply to Become a Member

To qualify for membership, all prospective Members must complete the full application below, meet the income and credit standards established by the Board of Directors and pay the $50 non-refundable application fee. Upon approval for membership, prospective Members can then select an available membership they're interested in and communicate directly with the seller. The seller may be the Cooperative or a Member, depending on availability. Regardless of the seller, all transactions are completed through the Cooperatives' Management Office.

Once a price has been negotiated and financing has been secured, the Membership must get transferred from the Outgoing Member (seller) to the Incoming Member (you). Then, you would receive a House & Grounds Manual and Occupancy Agreement as well as the keys to your new home! If you have any questions about the process, please contact us directly or continue reading below.

Financing Options

Prospective Members must secure financing to pay for the Membership (home) before the Occupancy Agreement can be signed. Members can pay using certified cashiers check from cash they already have to purchase the membership. If outside financing is required to secure a loan, the prospective Member must visit a bank of their choice to discuss their options.

The loan required is not a mortgage like it would be if the home were a traditional single family home purchase. The loan is likely to be a "condo" loan or another type of "secured loan" with the membership listed as collateral. Prospective Members must get approval for funding independently, meeting the income and credit standards set forth by their chosen bank. Ash Street Cooperative is not responsible, nor are they able to provide funding or approval for funding.

Securing funding is 100% the responsibility of the prospective Member and should be explored prior to applying to become a Member of Ash Street Co-op. Should you have any questions about the financing process, please contact your bank or contact us for more details. The bank will need to be informed that the funding you are seeking is for a Housing Cooperative.

How is the Membership Price Calculated?

Some of Ash Street's available memberships are available through Management; some are available through the Members directly. With Member-owned homes, the price paid to purchase the Membership is negotiated between the seller and you (the buyer) and is based on any improvements, included appliances, carpeting, etc... With Coop-owned memberships, the price is set by the Board of Directors. The price for a 2 bedroom interior unit is $40,000+ based on unit upgrades and all 3 bedroom units are $50,000+ based on unit upgrades. Memberships must be permanently occupied by the Member-owner and cannot be used as investment properties.
